Itinerary

Day 1 – A Warm Welcome to Bhutan, Land of the Thunder Dragon

Your unforgettable Seniorholidays journey begins as you meet our experienced Tour Manager at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, for assisted check-in and immigration. As your flight gently descends into Paro International Airport, enjoy breathtaking Himalayan views—often considered among the world’s most scenic landings. After immigration and baggage assistance, we set off on a comfortable drive through the lush Paro Valley, following the Paro Chhu river towards Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital and one of the world’s few capitals without traffic lights. Upon hotel check-in, time is reserved to rest and acclimatise. In the evening, enjoy a relaxed welcome briefing with your Tour Manager, introducing Bhutan’s culture, customs, and the days ahead. The day concludes with a wholesome dinner and overnight stay in Thimphu.

Day 2 – Spiritual Calm & Cultural Heartbeats of Thimphu

After breakfast, we begin a leisurely exploration of Thimphu, carefully paced for senior comfort. Our first stop is the majestic Buddha Dordenma, a 52-metre gilded statue of Lord Buddha, symbolising peace and prosperity while offering panoramic valley views. We continue to the serene Zilukha Nunnery, home to Buddhist nuns devoted to spiritual practice, followed by a visit to the sacred Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the Third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. This stupa remains a deeply spiritual space where locals gather daily in prayer. After lunch at a comfortable local restaurant, the evening is kept free for rest, gentle walks, or quiet shopping in Thimphu town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3 – Through Mountain Passes to the Sacred Punakha Valley

Post breakfast, we drive towards the beautiful Punakha Valley, crossing the scenic Dochula Pass at 3,050 metres. On clear days, this pass offers spectacular Himalayan views and is adorned with the Druk Wangyal Chortens, built in honour of Bhutan’s Fourth King. After refreshments, we descend into the warmer Punakha region to visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, dramatically located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Often called the “Palace of Great Happiness,” it is one of Bhutan’s most important historical and religious landmarks, showcasing exquisite Bhutanese architecture. On our return journey, we make a gentle visit to Chimi Lhakhang, associated with the beloved saint Drukpa Kunley, the “Divine Madman.” Those preferring less walking may relax at nearby handicraft shops. Dinner and overnight stay back in Thimphu.

The remainder of the day is at leisure—perfect for enjoying the crisp mountain air, gentle strolls, or simply unwinding with valley views. For those feeling adventurous, an optional hike (at personal pace) leads to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest, dramatically perched on a cliffside and revered as one of Bhutan’s holiest sites. For guests preferring a gentler day, we enjoy a cultural exploration including an exterior visit to Drukgyel Dzong, once built to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invasions, with views of Mount Jomolhari on clear days. A warm Bhutanese lunch experience and a leisurely visit to Paro’s local market allow for meaningful cultural interaction and souvenir shopping.
