After breakfast, check out and get ready for a city tour of Kochi. First, visit St. Francis Church, built in 1503 by Portuguese Franciscan Friars, and known as the oldest European church in India. Next, explore the Dutch Palace, originally constructed by the Portuguese. Then, see the Jewish synagogue in Fort Cochin, built in 1568, beautifully adorned with Chinese tiles and Belgian chandeliers. Don’t miss the Chinese fishing nets (Cheenavala), a unique feature of Cochin, believed to have been introduced by traders from the court of Chinese ruler Kublai Khan. After sightseeing, enjoy complimentary fresh coconut water. Later, start the drive to Munnar, a famous hill station in Kerala, which takes about 4.5 hours. This morning, after a hearty breakfast, we set off to explore the wonders of Munnar. Our first stop is the famous Eravikulam National Park, home to the rare Nilgiri Tahr, a majestic mountain goat. Next, we drive to the picturesque Mattupetty Dam, offering stunning views that are perfect for photos. We’ll take a break for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we’ll head to the Tea Museum, where you can delve into the fascinating history of tea, from cultivation to processing. Don’t miss the chance to purchase a variety of flavored teas to take home. After breakfast, we’ll start our journey to Thekkady at 8:30 am. Set beside a serene lakeside, Thekkady is home to South India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary. We’ll stop for lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Thekkady, we’ll embark on a Spice Plantation Tour to discover the famous spices of Kerala. After the tour, check into the hotel and take some time to relax. In the evening, you’ll be treated to a captivating Kathakali performance. This traditional dance-drama, known for its elaborate makeup and costumes, literally means “story play.” After the Kathakali performance, you can explore the nearby shops before returning to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. Early in the morning, visit the Periyar Sanctuary for an exciting boat ride on Periyar Lake. This 1.5-hour excursion offers a chance to spot some of the sanctuary’s incredible wildlife, including tigers, leopards, elephants, bison, antelopes, sambar deer, wild boars, monkeys, and a wide variety of birds. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. We highly recommend trying a local Ayurveda massage for a rejuvenating experience.
